### About the Summit

We are living through a pivotal moment in history: Technologies like AI and biotechnology are advancing rapidly, while decisions made in Brussels on global health, pandemic preparedness, and animal welfare ripple far beyond Europe’s borders. But how do we decide which problems deserve our attention when resources are limited and stakes are high?

EA Summit: Brussels brings together professionals working on these issues to explore how Europe can address them more effectively. Over a full day of talks and interactive discussions, you’ll engage with effective altruism—a global community and way of thinking focused on achieving the greatest positive impact and bringing more clarity and structure to difficult choices between competing priorities.

The summit connects people working in and around policy who care about getting these choices right. You’ll hear from practitioners who’ve applied this thinking in their own work, explore how it might apply to yours, and meet others wrestling with similar questions. The day is built around conversation and reflection as much as talks and workshops, with the aim of helping you think more clearly about where your skills can make the greatest difference, and providing evergreen resources to support that goal.


### Who is the event for?

We're particularly interested in people with professional experience working in or around policy, law, research, or international affairs. Whether you’re part of an EU institution, a think tank, a consultancy, or an NGO, you’ll find opportunities to exchange ideas with others who care deeply about solving the world’s most pressing problems. The event is catered towards people new to or unfamiliar with effective altruism, so no prior knowledge is required.

In order to best support this newer audience, we’d also like to invite those with professional policy experience who are already working in established EA organisations or causes. We will be directly reaching out to many such organisations and individuals, but if you’d like to lend your expertise as a speaker or mentor, please contact us directly at summit@eabrussels.org.

- Engaging talks on global priorities, from AI governance to biosecurity and animal welfare.

### About the Summit

The EA Summit: Philippines 2026 will take place on __31 January 2026__ from 9AM to 6:30PM in Makati City, Philippines at AIM Conference Center.

EA Summit: Philippines is a one day [effective altruism (EA)](https://www.effectivealtruism.org/) event for individuals across the Philippines who are thinking seriously about how they can make the world a better place. It brings together people from a wide range of fields to explore how evidence, reason, and compassion can guide our efforts toward doing the most good.

Attendees may be new to effective altruism or are already working on complex challenges, such as (but not limited to) global health and development, animal welfare, and AI safety/governance. The summit is designed to foster meaningful conversations, introduce promising ideas, and support thoughtful action at both local and global levels. 


### Who is the event for?

EA Summit Philippines prioritizes attendees based in the Philippines, with the aim of strengthening local networks and supporting community-building efforts across the country.

The summit also welcomes experienced EAs from around the world who can offer valuable perspectives and mentorship to the event.

This event may be a good fit if you are:

- __New to effective altruism__, and interested in exploring how its principles can help you make more thoughtful, impactful decisions in your career or personal projects
- __Part of the existing EA community in the Philippines__, and looking to build deeper connections, collaborate with others, or share what you’ve learned

### Program Highlights

The agenda for Summit events typically includes:

- Introductory talks on EA concepts and key cause areas

- Skill-building workshops focused on decision-making, career strategy, and project development
- Meetups and (informal) socials to connect with peers, mentors, and collaborators.

### How do I attend? - Applications are now open!

__If this is your first time applying to the event:__

1. __APPLY__: Submit an application [through our form](https://easummitphilippines.fillout.com/t/iGq5zqQQuBus) by __January 15, 2025__. After applying, you can expect:

  - To receive confirmation that your submission was received immediately after submitting the form.
  - To receive a decision on your applications within ~10 working days, regardless of the outcome.

2. __REGISTER__: Accepted applicants will be emailed a registration form – this helps us manage communications, catering, and access to our event’s networking app.

__Registration is on a rolling basis.__
  - Accepted applicants __must submit the registration form__ in order to confirm their attendance.
  - If you can no longer attend after registering, please let us know to cancel your registration so we can offer your slot to another person. If you made a ticket donation to our team, we are happy to return the amount to you if you cancel your registration.

EAGx India (an [effective altruism (EA)](https://www.effectivealtruism.org/) conference) is back for its third consecutive year this December. Join us in Delhi for a weekend of thought-provoking ideas and conversations sparking collaborations, career pivots and life-long friendships. 

We're looking forward to hosting 300 attendees from India and surrounding Asian EA communities. Speakers include experts from the international EA community who work on important causes ranging from public health and animal welfare to safeguarding civilisation from emerging global catastrophic risks. Whether you're new to EA and its philosophy or already shaping work in key cause areas, this conference is your opportunity to deepen your knowledge, expand your network, and discover actionable ways to make an impact. The event offers ample opportunities for learning through talks, workshops, panel discussions and deepening connections through 1:1 meetings with potential collaborators, funders, recruiters, advisers, hires, and friends!

At this year's conference, we aim to bring focus to:

1. ⁠Promising high-impact initiatives seeking entrepreneurial leaders,
2. Opportunities to build skills and contribute to priority cause areas, and
3. Funding avenues to support and sustain efforts

Alongside these priorities, strengthening our foundation in core EA principles like scope sensitivity and scout mindset will be a key focus. Here’s what you can expect:

__Complete a short application (~5-15 minutes)__. We collect basic details about your interests and engagement with effective altruism.

__Our team will review your application__. We aim to be in touch about your application regardless of the outcome within 10 business days.

__Register for the conference (~5 minutes)__. If you’ve been accepted, you’ll receive an email with a link to register and confirm your place at the conference. At this stage, you’ll be asked to provide dietary requirements and additional logistical details, indicate whether you’ll be available to volunteer, and have the option of donating to offset event costs.

### Who the event is for

EAGxIndia prioritises attendees from India and surrounding regions to build the local community and connections across the region. However, we also welcome experienced EAs from around the world who can bring valuable perspectives and mentorship to the event. The conference is ideal for:

### Addressing Concerns: Air Pollution & Safety

We recognise that winter pollution in Delhi is a genuine concern, and we’re taking it seriously. The event will be held largely indoors, equipped with air purifiers, and N95 masks will be available. We also encourage participants to bring any personal precautions they rely on. If you have health conditions that may be aggravated by pollution, please reach out to us, and if attending feels unsafe for you, your well-being comes first.

The venue is in a high-security zone, and if any risks escalate, we will postpone the event. Safety, both health and physical, is our top priority.

Please note that travel support funds are limited and we can only accommodate some requests. In some cases, we might not be able to pay for all of your travel expenses. If you do not end up receiving travel support, this is likely the result of limited funds rather than an evaluation of your potential for impact. ### What to expect

EAGxAmsterdam brings together people using evidence and reason to tackle the world's most pressing problems — from AI safety and global health to animal welfare and ensuring the wellbeing of future generations.

Three days of talks, workshops, and — crucially — one-on-one meetings with other attendees. The format is designed around conversation, not just content. Most attendees make around 10 new connections, scheduled through our conference app, Swapcard. You'll meet researchers, founders, policymakers, and career-changers working on problems that actually matter.

Topics include global health and development, animal welfare, catastrophic risk reduction, AI safety, and global priorities research. The emphasis is on clear thinking and real-world application, not abstract philosophy.

### Featured Speakers
We're excited to host leading voices from across global health and development, animal welfare, catastrophic risk reduction, AI safety, and global priorities research.

__Ben Todd__ – Co-founder of 80,000 Hours, Ben has helped thousands of people make significant career changes toward high-impact work. He'll be speaking about AI safety and preparing for a world with advanced AI.

__Michael Plant__ – Founder of the Happier Lives Institute, Michael pioneered wellbeing-based approaches to charity evaluation. His work now appears in the World Happiness Report and influences how global institutions think about measuring impact.

__Stien van der Ploeg__ – Executive Director of Animal Charity Evaluators, Stien leads rigorous evaluations of animal welfare organisations to identify which ones reduce the most suffering per euro donated. She'll address the state of the animal welfare movement in 2025.

__Bob Fischer__ – Professor of Philosophy at Texas State University and Senior Researcher at Rethink Priorities, Bob led the groundbreaking Moral Weight Project on comparing welfare capacities across species. His talk will explore insect sentience and its implications for cause prioritisation.

__Plus 20+ additional speakers__ across our five event tracks, bringing expertise in governance, entrepreneurship, global health, and catastrophic risk reduction.

The event is grounded in a set of principles that guide our community:

__Prioritisation__: Some ways of doing good are far more effective than others. We aim to identify and focus on what matters most — using numbers, where possible, to estimate and compare the impact of different actions.

__Impartial altruism__: When trying to do the most good, we aim to give equal moral weight to all, regardless of nationality, species, or time. This often means focusing on those who are most neglected or voiceless.

__Open truthseeking__: We don't start with fixed loyalties to causes or methods. We aim to remain curious, update our views in light of evidence, and stay open to radically changing our minds.

__Collaboration__: Doing good better is a shared endeavour. We aim to be ambitious and intellectually honest while working with integrity, compassion, and respect for others.

### Location

The conference takes place at B. Amsterdam, a former logistics centre turned startup hub.

Amsterdam is well-connected by train across Europe and by direct flights from London and major US cities through Schiphol Airport. It's also one of the largest EA hubs globally (according to the [EA Survey](https://forum.effectivealtruism.org/posts/fpn6MZTShaGLZqopo/ea-survey-2024-geography#Totals_per_country)), with a co-working space and regular community events.

### Cost and support

EAGxAmsterdam is a donate-as-you-feel event, with a suggested contribution of ~€120 for most attendees. During registration, you can choose your donation amount, including a free option if contributing would be a financial burden.

We may be able to offer limited travel support for attendees who wouldn't otherwise be able to attend — indicate this in your application if relevant.

EA Connect 2025 will take place 5–7 December online. The conference will focus on a diverse range of cause areas, community building, and knowledge sharing. It will offer networking, talks, workshops, and meetups for attendees from 75+ different countries dedicated to addressing some of the world’s greatest challenges. 

__The deadline to apply is 11:59 pm UTC on Wednesday, December 3rd.__

## Why attend?

CEA events have a track record of fostering new connections in the effective altruism community. Attendees receive the necessary information or encouragement to apply for a job, an internship, or a program that supports their further development.
