The Animal Legal Defense Fund is offering law students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in animal protection legislative advocacy through externships and student volunteer positions for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027.

Role - externs and volunteers assist the Legislative Affairs Program with policy research, legislative analysis, drafting advocacy content, coalition outreach, and virtual lobby trainings
Commitment - part-time (5–15 hours/week), fully remote; Fall term runs approximately September 1 – December 1, 2026; Spring term runs January 15 – April 15, 2027
Eligibility - open to rising 2L, rising 3L, part-time program equivalent, or LLM students at ABA-accredited law schools; experience in legislative advocacy preferred
Compensation - uncompensated; students may receive academic credit or pro bono hours through their law school, subject to individual school requirements
