The Council of Europe is seeking an experienced senior leader to head its Artificial Intelligence and Data Protection Division within the Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law, based in Strasbourg (grade A4, fixed-term, deadline 20 May 2026).

Leadership: lead and manage the Division's staff and resources, overseeing the secretariat of key intergovernmental committees including the Conference of the Parties to the AI Framework Convention, the Committee of Convention 108+, and the CDNET
Standard-setting and monitoring: develop monitoring methodologies for the AI Framework Convention and Convention 108+, and oversee standard-setting work on new and emerging digital technologies
International representation: represent the Council of Europe at global forums including the UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance, the Internet Governance Forum, and the Global Partnership on AI
Requirements: higher education in law, political science, or a related field; at least 7 years of experience in intergovernmental work including a minimum of 2 years focused on AI and/or data protection standards; excellent English and basic French required
